The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people shouting “6-7” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
