Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
