Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and earn three points of course but when you're in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell like this with results so bad.”
Jones stated, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we will always compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone again the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
