Adult Swim's Leading New Show of This Year Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a strikingly different tone. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often defined by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to develop the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."
Executive Acclaim
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a gentle counterpart" to other adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to enjoy the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
